For a successful national retailer that has 'hot-links' to every store, the central computer facility is a critical part of the day-to-day operations for every outlet location as it monitors sales, maintains inventories, schedules deliveries and performs other critical functions. Any downtime of the central computer facility has widespread, immediate and long-term impact.

Solution

With great importance placed on uptime, the client chose to proceed with a redundant facility.

Each site has a UPS system with redundant batteries and HVAC system. Each has a diesel generator connected to separate power grids.  Measures have been taken to ensure that should any disaster affect the main computer site, the back-up site would be fully capable of maintaining all critical applications with minimum disruption of business.
